Frequently Asked Questions

Here are the most common questions we get, if your questions or concerns are still not answered, feel free to email us.

Tap-It-Open is the most secure way to open your garage and takes advantage of Bluetooth security and your phone's password protection. No more misplacing or losing your garage door opener. No more worrying about someone stealing your garage door opener out of your car. Have access to get into your garage when you're in a friends car, or give access to your kids or other family members who normally would not have a garage door opener. Please note: This app does not work by itself. You will need to go to our website and order the device to hook up to your garage door opener.

How secure will my garage be from others "pairing" with the device ?

The only way to pair a device is by pressing on the "pair" button located on the device. If a person is already pressing on this button to pair their phone, I'm sorry to say that they are already in your garage.

Will the this app drain my phone battery ?

No, the app only uses power when you use it, and is equivalent to opening and closing any app.

Do I have to buy the app ?

No, the app is 100% free.

I have multiple garages. Can I use the app to control all my garages ?

Yes, you can currently control two garage door opener devices at the same time. You would obviously need a device connected to each garage door opener.

Will the app work if I'm on the phone ?

Yes, it should not interfere with your current phone call.

At what range will the app work ?

Without any interference, we have found that you can get the garage door to open at about 100 feet. We have also seen it work at 200 feet, it all depends on your environment between you and your garage door opener.

Can I turn off the device if I want to ?

Yes. There is an on/off switch, this allows your to turn off the device. Your garage door will now only work with a regular remote or your garage door button in your garage.

How many phones can I have paired with the device ?

We have had 8 phones which we paired. Please remember that once paired, that phone will be able to get access into your home. If you are giving a relative or someone else access temporarily, make sure you remove the device from their phone when you no longer want them to have access. You can also do a hard reset if that person is not available for you to unpair their phone (please see last question on how to do this).

What other garage door openers will this work on ?

We have tested it on Genie, Chamberlain, Liftmaster, Raynor, Marantec, Wayne-Dalton, Access Master, Axis Cam, and Sears Craftsman garage door openers. These are the most common openers. If you have it installed on a different garage door opener, please let us know. If you're not sure, you can always call or email us.

Will this device void my garage door opener warranty or cause electrical problems ?

No,the device acts like another "wall switch" which is allowed by most garage door opener manufactures.

I have a newer garage opener with the "MyQ technology", will this work with my garage ?

The MyQ technology in the new garage door openers are encrypted and can only be used with products that are synced with that encryption. So adding a device that does not have the same encryption will simply not work... sorry ;-(

Is there a warranty or money back guarantee?

Yes! There is a 30 day money back guarantee. If for some reason it does not work with your garage, or you are simply not happy with it, you can return it for a full refund. There is also a 6 months warranty to exchange if your device becomes defective (this has only happened once!)

Can I reset the device and remove a user I no longer what to have access ?

Yes, you can reset and remove unwanted users, here's how: In pairing mode, press and hold volume up, volume down and the pair button at the same time for 3 seconds. The LED light will start to blink red and them back to a steady blue. When you reset the device, all connections in the device will be deleted. You will then have to pair it again with all the phones you want to use it with.
